Regulatory Information & Complaints Procedure

My practice is regulated through the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury

Information to be provided in accordance with the Notaries Practice Rules 2019.

My business name is Bernard Cordell, Notary Public. I practise from the above address using the above telephone number.

The service provided by me is that of a Notary Public carrying out all permitted notarial activities including, where appropriate and if required, arranging legalisation of documents and sending them to their final destination.

PLEASE NOTE THAT I have no knowledge of, nor qualification in, any law other than English Law. I will do my best to ensure that you have understood the meaning of any document that you sign before me but I cannot and will not be responsible to you for the understanding or application of any foreign law that may apply thereto.

I will provide as accurate estimate as possible of the time to be taken in respect of services to be provided on or before agreeing to provide such services.

Payment of my fee and disbursements is due when the document has been prepared which I may retain pending payment in full.

I confirm that my practice is covered by a formal complaint’s procedure applicable in the event that any client is dissatisfied with the service provided and this is outlined below. My professional indemnity policy is currently limited to one million pounds in respect of any claim.

  3. If you are dissatisfied about the service you have received please do not hesitate to contact me.
  4. If we are unable to resolve the matter you may then complain to the Notaries Society of which I am a member, who have a Complaints Procedure which is approved by the Faculty Office. This procedure is free to use and is designed to provide a quick resolution to any dispute.

Finally, even if you have your complaint considered under the Notaries Society Approved Complaints Procedure, you may at the end of that procedure, or after a period of 8 weeks from the date you first notified me that you were dissatisfied, make your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman, if you are not happy with the result :

  9. If you decide to make a complaint to the Legal Ombudsman you must refer your matter to the Legal Ombudsman within six months from the conclusion of the complaint process.
